Moonjar shines kid-sized lessons
on
saving, spending - and sharing
Moonjar isn’t actually a jar. Its three colorful money boxes
labeled “Spend”, “Share”, and “Save” are meant to spark family discussions
about the value of a dollar. Designed to help kids get their hands and minds
around three basic concepts of financial management, the Moonjar has won
accolades for its healthy approach to money as a tool to achieve dreams –
including dreams of helping others – in a materialistic world. Assembling and
decorating the boxes, deciding where the money will come from, and discussing
how to divvy it up can be family activities. Kids are encouraged to decorate
each box with pictures of what the money inside has been designated for; the
“Share” box encourages charitable giving for the little philanthropist. Moonjar
kits are an out-of-this-world way to help kids learn how to manage money, so
when they’re older, it won’t manage them.
